Play Word Games Online
When I went looking to play word games online earlier this week, I was amazed at the sheer amount of free word games instantly available online. I must admit, I am usually more into the visually based gaming online but when I had a few older friends over for a gaming party – the word games were thrown up for discussion and competition, so we set about tracking down some word based fun on the internet.
Remember scrabble? Yep, I am sure you do. The game that used to probably get played so much more before the internet came along, what about a good old fashioned free crossword? Other games like the Word Scrambler or Word Morpher seem extremely popular too. People playing these types of free word games online apart from fun will no doubt be expanding their own vocabulary as they seek to build word after word and topple their opponents.
Another old favourite ‘boggle’ gets mentioned, and if you get stuck many of the free word gaming sites have a built in dictionary there for you to check the word and ensure no one is cheating at their word creation.
The whole learning aspect then points to a great outlet for kids and younger games. By playing the odd free word game online, kids will build their own vocab and if it’s made into a fun challenge, they are learning without even being award of the benefits – which is usually a good thing!
A quick Google search showed us nearly 10,000 results for based around online word games – so there is certainly no shortage for you word lovers out there. So when it’s time to get away from your favourite visual game such as World of Warcraft, maybe the new release Evony or older school games like Civilization, F1 Grand Prix or whatever it is you play, flick over to some free word games.

www.games.com – Has over 20 free word games to play online, the site has a good layout and is very user friendly.
www.planetozkids.com – While slanted slightly to younger players is highly recommended. Great interface and a massive assortment of free word games including: Wheel of Fortune 2, Babel, Flip Words 2, Scrabble Plus and WordJong!
