New online MMO titles are popping up almost weekly with two new additions; World of Lordcraft and EmpireCraft recently coming into the fray as free web strategy games.

For World of Lordcraft, its a closely linked browser version of the existing Blizzard title World of Warcraft.

While not released by Blizzard, it will be interesting to see if any legal action is filed given this game is very, very similar to the existing software oriented MMORPG.

Regardless of this, serious browser gaming fans will be impressed by the graphics, gameplay and options available in Lordcraft. With additional races, classes and most importantly battle grounds and battle modes – big strategy fans will love it.

Given the restrictions on 2D java gaming, this is a fairly good effort and will attract a strong following in the coming months. It will need to work hard, given Evony continues to lead the way, Grepolis Game from Innogames continues to grow as does others such as Adventure Quest Worlds.

Another newbie to the gaming scene is EmpireCraft, probably aimed more at younger more simplistic oriented gamers, this interface, graphics and gameplay are very basic and will not appeal to professional MMO gamers wanting a long, addictive expereince.

Build up your civilization from a small setting on a little island to an ever-growing, larger dominating community in this catchy and addictive MMORPG.

The visuals are pretty cool for 2D graphics and take you back to the mid 90’s when offline games were cartoon based – but very sharp in images and quality. This is a good quality level for free MMO’s.

According to MMO Hut, the player rate for the Ikariam game is quite high. So expect a great blend of existing players with accounts and who are regularly logging into Ikariam.

Some complaints for the game are around the poor tutorial and interface, it can be a little tricky initially learning how to play this browser game. Best bet is to get involved with friends who have experience, then they can guide you through the first few weeks at newbie level.

Others have said the gameplay can be a little slow at times, but given that so many Ikariam Logins are happening daily – something is certainly bringing people back to this game.

In a good light, the game has a good trading system which forces users to interact and trade with each other to keep their accounts progressing and increasing in experience and levels all the time.

Totally island based, you’ll occupy an island or an area of land with no more than 16 players. From there, build up your town or Polis and begin to expand via water / ships to colonize other islands and areas of the map in the Ikariam Game.

Well, it’s certainly got to be free and fortunately, most new MMO game releases have been free. Just giving us the option to extend our gaming experience through purchasing additional access, usually through game coins.

Now, next should be the visuals. A free online MMO with good graphics is a critical component. While the browser based gaming limits what software developers can do with a game – those crisp, cutting edge graphics need to be cool.

Coming in 3rd, would you say Sound Quality or Sound Track for the MMO?

Nope, you guessed wrong. Most gamers under the age of 23 will insist on have at least a few hundred thousand gamer accounts already established in the MMO before the jump on board. A tough ask? Sure is, so you need plenty of guinea pigs and beta testers signed up early for new game releases before new accounts will signup and then the thing goes viral.

Finally, the last ingredient is playability.

Last you say!?! Well, while some insist on playability and addictiveness of the game – in real life, most gamers will check the other points first. Even if they are unhappy with the storyline of a new MMO game, or dislike the end game or whatever, they’ll hang around if all their friends and a good majority of the internet are playing this game.

In Dragons Wars Online, the object is for the gamer (once signed up for a free account!) to develop and train Dragons to challenge other gamers online.

Essentially, the person with the most powerful and victorious Dragon – is ranked as the leader.

What surprised us when we arrived to review Dragon Wars Online, was the fact that these guys are running advertisements on their website that actually advertise other free online games. So they are probably losing a lot of users once they arrive, as large flash based displays for Evony Free Forever and Adventure Quest were both present at the bottom of the Dragons Call online signup page.

Dragons Call Online, probably won’t appeal to younger gamers – as its text based, it probably won’t have the excitement and addiction factor that the new age addicting games have for the Gen Y and below. (Just look at the Facebook style online games that seem to be the norm these days!)

From the makers of Grepolis the other MMO title they offer is an online game called ‘The West’. A good choice of game theme here, with so many looking at the medieval, space-age or mythology age – the Wild West as yet hasn’t been overdone and offers a good unique experience for the web gamer.

The West is still a quest based game, but you can choose to build your western town, fight other players or develop skills that will help you navigate life in the West.

An easy to play game, with good support options. The West is easy to get into and you’ll be up and running in no time.

The only complaint from gamers is that the graphics are a little poor when compared to recent standards from new online games.

Web Diplomacy Game – is a free MMO game online, which is like the board game – RISK.

Conquer the world map, with up to 25 nations or players involved. Attack enemies, make pacts and tread carefully with other opponents. This game is a high strategy affair, with a focus more on good game-play as opposed to graphics and big flair.

Highly addictive gameplay, join with friends as allies and form an alliance.

The only problem with this game is that at times, the length of turn can be quite drawn out – a little frustrating for serious gamers.

The eRepublik Game is a market leader in the MMO space. This free online game basically lets you do whatever you what in the virtual world. You choose you home country or state, build the home base up and eventually go to work. Working will earn you additional funds – and continued success could lead you to run for president in this virtual world. In eRepublik you can go to war, defend your turf, develop money making opportunities or make allies with other world players.

The market just continues to get better for those playing web browser games online. 2009 saw some big changes, with Evony re-writing the scripts with a decent game but serious advertising push that brought a whole host of new players into the browser based gaming world.

Now other software developers are seeing the advantages of online games, the likes of Innogames out of German who have brought Grepolis to other langauges and this online game looks hugely popular and will sure move up the ranks to prove a best browser game online in 2010.

In terms of ranked browser based games online; here’s how we see things for 2010 – if you haven’t played any of these titles get over and sign up for an account shortly, login before things become too busy:

1. Evony Game – Still hugely popular, Evony Free Forever will take some beating, given it has 18 million online gamers playing.

2. Kingory Game – Hot on the heels of Evony, Kingory has real potential and it’s taking some users away. The BBGSITE website gave this a 9.2 rating over other browser games online.

3. Grepolis Game – The new free RTS / MMORPG on the block from Innogames, will certainly have an impact online in 2010.

4. War of Legends – A 2D browser based game, this one from Ultizen Games – play in an ancient world, great battle scenes will appeal to hardcore gamers not kiddies.
