Evony Game Review
It’s been available to the general public now for several months; Evony Free Forever is solid enough to be assessed overall. How has it performed overall? Does it still have a solid user base of keen gamers? Will money continue to be poured into this game from developers and owners? Has evony really been a gamer changer for the online free gaming browser market as some predicted early on?
Well, from their humble beginnings as ‘civony’ – the owners of Evony have really taken it along way.
It’s been touted that Wowmine (the gold farmers out of China, pimping out on World of Warcraft) invested big dollars with UMGE (United Multiplayer Gaming Entertainment) to basically get a huge online MMORPG title going – that could actually ‘open a new market’ similar to what WoW did to the mature, client based MMORPG gaming world.
Sure, very ambitious, but in some instances – Wowmine HAVE really changed the market or at least created a new niche, that other software developers are surely watching closely or trying to get into.
First there was the strong advertising campaign. Highly attractive advertisements, closely designed to adhere to the fine line of Google Adsense terms of service. Yes, their imagery featuring a lightly clad lass in attractive clothing and a bare chest certainly did get attention.
But they kept it above board (just) and really grabbed the market of gamers and even others, who seemingly had toyed with a free online MMORPG gaming title.
Browser games were always for a ’short burst of fun’. Yes, there were a few exceptions, namely travian, damoria etc. But overall, rarely could a free online rpg or browser game compete with an Everquest, World of Warcraft or Diablo.
Certainly the graphics when you look at Evony are very, very easy on the eye. They ‘do’ set new standards for the browser gaming market and the speed of the game (GUI) etc are all very, good.
The other thing that evony does well, is gameplay in ‘work’ environments. While some say it’s too slow and requires hours to ‘build cottages’ buildings, armies etc – this works very well for people trying to hide their PC screen or game from the boss at work. And evony knew this, it’s makers actually tried to target that market.
Gamer wise, the evony game successfully captured 1 million to their account base and while there has been some tapering off, there are around 100,000 searches each and every day in the google search engine for evony information alone.
Some critics, gamers and reviewers alike are giving evony a hammering in blogs and the like, but this still generates interest. “Any publicity is good publicity” and people are still rolling to evony.com to check things out.
The final conclusion, is Wowmine making money from their free browser rpg game evony? Well, impossibly to know for sure – but given they started with less than 6 free gaming servers and they now have over 50, it shows they are keen to keep investing in the online browser title.
Paypal earnings must be continuing – otherwise, you would see the overall server base decline or remain still.
Lets revisit things in another 6 months, it will be interesting to see the progress of evony but also if other games have followed the lead and tried to capture this new niche carved by such a creative and ambitious free online browser based RPG game.
