Guild Wars is a well laid out, designed and crafted game, while not suited to everyone – it’s a free RPG that can be enjoyed by most gamers.
The gameplay is fastpaced and will keep most interested, the fighting system is completely detailed and goes very deep into all elements of battle, which will really attract the hardcore gamers.
Your hero can choose a top level and back-up level ability, its also easy to ’switch’ between abilities within the Guild Wars game and also altering perviously allocated points to abilities can be reshuffled, which is great. This really allows for hero/character flexibility regardless of how long you have been playing Guild Wars.
Just like more MMORPG games, the best hero’s will come from builds / points systems that suits their type.
The best part of Guild Wars, you can start levelling very quickly and actually finding weapons / items isn’t too hard. (Unlike other competing MMORPG free games online) So if you’re keen to have a secondary hero, class and abilities – creating this and getting it levelling isn’t too hard for anyone.
Guild Wars is really a PvP based game. If you’re not ready to battle it out constantly, then forget it. Guild Wars thrives on the man to man player combat model.
The actualy PvE component of Guild Wars isn’t too creative and is probably likely to steer players towards Blizzard’s World of Warcraft model.
For example, in guild wars pve – the non-town areas are instanced, this is a plus – because you won’t have other gamers effecting your overall missions. Also while playing within a group is virtually a must, you are able to join forces with the Guild Wars NPC bots if you really want to (or don’t have many friends playing the game!).
Where the problem lies here is the actualy AI, its not particularly smart, however the makers of Guild Wars have done well to continually improve the AI component for players.
At this point, the NPC bots are much improved and at a level where they can be in the group and add value to gamers.
There are times in the game, where the problems with the NPC’s may effect your ability to continue quests, you may genuinely need help from friends to defeat or conquer certain missions.
There are certainly several times in guild wars where a complete groups of players (all human) and working together to defeat the enemy are needed, finding allies can sometimes be hard if your immediate friends aren’t into the MMORPG game itself.. (ie. for example everyone is busy PvPing at max level)
The story line in Guild Wars is quite good, however it lacks a lot of depth and may bore the traditionalists pretty quickly. If you complete the game quickly, many will reattempt it with a different hero and class to make it more interesting, but unless you have a group of school mates or work mates in Guild Wars playing with you – it can get very boring very quickly.
However, Guild Wars is a good game that will be enjoyed by many, but overall – unless you love to PvP – then you won’t get the most from this online free RPG game.
If you’re a serious PvE type gamer, then maybe look to a more serious title like WoW or even the new Evony Free Forever game.
