Some other gamers have chimed in and they said that ‘Tomb Raider‘ the original release that was quite a difficult game to play. It was another 3D style game where you had to seek out items as well as progress through challenges and puzzles in the game.

Hard Core gamer Malcolm also said “What about Devil May Cry 3 (especially the final Boss Battle)?” – now theres a tough challenge. When I think back to early DOS games that posed as a difficult game – I think of Wolf3d without the cheats. Remember IDDQD and IDKFA which would get you unlimited lives and unlimited weapons.

I also spent hours on Wolf3d trying to find the secret mazes, remember pushing space bar on EVERY single wall? Now that was a difficult part of the game.

Then you faced the bosses with guns galore, chain saws and tonnes of lives – real hard core gaming. But sure, it was great fun.

Mortal Kombat: The previous edition Deadly Alliance, was steady in terms of following and now the Mortal Kombat Decption edition takes over the storyline from there. With good solid foundations in terms of story, it continues around the MK character of Dragon King Onaga, who wants to take over the worlds after previously beating the sorcerers Quan Chi and Shang Tsung in earlier editions of the Mortal Kombat Series, the leading characters in the previous franchise were both Thunder God Raiden, . In this latest Decption edition, they form an alliance to face Onaga.

Amazingly there are 26 different heros you can choose in this MK edition, this edition has catered for 9 new characters that gamers can choose from. Decption also adds a host of new features and gaming moves, even unique ‘mk puzzle games’ and even a chess game featuring mortal kombat characters. The Konquest Mode takes on a cool new RPG format, the game then dovetails around the life of Shujinko, a fighter who is knifed in the back by Onaga to search for artifacts to give Onaga more powers. In late 2006, Akklaim / Midway unleashed Mortal Kombat: Unchained, specifically targeting the Playstation Portable 2, which also allowed gamers to take control of several new heros.

The man behind the Unleashed Mortal Kombat edition was none other than Mr Ed Boon who wanted the edition called Deception to be unique and very unpredictable in terms of a Kombat game, it was Boons idea to throw in the unique mini-games such as the Chess featuring Mortal Kombat heros.

Boon also wanted the combo’s during the in-game fighting to be more realistic for his version of MK.

Deception was welcomed by gamers and generally got hot reviews from the critics and public, who lapped up the mini-games and felt the fighting style was much improved. The Konquest Mode, was the only portion to cop a spray. Many said the audio featured in the Konquest mode was terrible.

More awards were taken out by the Mortal Kombat series in 2004 as it continues in popularity until this day, with Mortal Kombat Cartoons, Animations and Mini Movies all over the Internet.

The team here at Online Games Free RPG decided to review an old favorite this week, we went in search of the original ‘Pong Game’. But what we stumbled on was something more exciting and great fun to review and play.

Wait for it; it’s called the ‘Beer Pong Game’

We were intrigued by the name and found this free online game of beer pong was hugely popular and had massively hits from gamers regularly trying to post the top score.

So what’s the beer pong game I hear you say?

Put simply, you have a shockwave based game with a handful of plastic cups and a ping pong ball. You must use you mouse to toss the ping pong ball at the cups and either land in the cups on the full or on the bounce and eliminate all cups to post a score.

The trick to this online free game is all in the mouse action, get your arc right and hold the mouse button on just long enough to develop the right amount of power.

The background music for the beer pong game was hilarious, sounded like something out of Jamaica and you have props such as beer kegs and jugs of beer to give the beer pong game and even greater feel of realism.

We played for hours, trying to beat each others high score here at the office. There is an online multiplayer option and surely this could become an epic office game, with colleagues facing off daily to keep getting the highest scores.

It also gave us the idea of having a real life ‘beer pong game’. Get a few mates over, drink some beverages and start tossing the ping pong ball at a bunch of cups. Hours of fun in anyones language.

Battlefield Hero is an animation, action packed shoot-em-up game for the PC.

In an interesting move, the makers of this software game (Electronic Arts) have decided to simply give the game away free. Yes, thats right – you can get Battlefield Hero for no cost. (Probably to ward off computer software pirates, but at the same time – surely the game developers need to make money from the game)

One way to make a profit for EA with Battlefield Hero – is to use advertising to recoup some dollars. Not adverts while you play the game (as this would be painful!)  Smartly, EA have added advertisers keen to be involved on their website (and the Battlefield Hero page) – also at the completion of the game, the credits on battlefield hero throw up some advertisers and this doesn’t harm the overall gameplay! Smart move EA!

Another unique move, is that EA offers the purchase of the following components / items within the game itself – the Kommendant’s Coat, the Special Forces Officer Cap, Maverik’s Sunglasses, the Elite Camo Trousers and the Marksman’s Honor.

Gamers can also spend money on widgets, get their heros new and unique abilities and buy more powerful weapons, and other side items such as emotes (the weird robot jiggy dance is a big laugh, well worth a look!) again, very different and could be a way that gamers will pull money out of their pockets and back into the battlefield hero game.

EA have also developed this game to run on a very low spec PC. They graphics are good enough, but by letting it run on basic PC specs it will open the market up massively to even more gamers and home computers. Existing games like Runescape, Guild Wars and even World of Warcraft have also done this to good effect, both dont need powerful processors in the PC so can be played anywhere. (Note, all these games are big at LAN cafes and gaming centres, so Battlefield Hero could do the same!)

Load times for battlefield hero are also very, very sharp. Quickly getting into the game within 20 seconds for most PCs.

EA has opened up the doors to new markets for themselves, given the following

* Dont need to make physical plastic and cardboard inventory. (less production costs)
* No mailing, courier costs, warehousing and other logistics costs.
* No middle man in the sale of the game, all the profit rolls into to EA.
* Pirates are immediately shut out, they cant get a piece of the pie.
* A long tail. It effectively costs EA nothing to keep this up on their server for ever. And players will be buying in-game stuff for a long time to come. The exact opposite of a retail game that gets thrown off the shelf after a short life.
* Potential to refresh the game to maintain interest. For instance currently it is third person only, first person could easily be added later to give a whole new gaming experience.
* Reaching new markets. Getting to 133 markets means they can reach Mongolia, Sudan and lots of other places where it is not worth setting up distribution for physical stock. But all added together they will now make a nice contribution to profits and allow EA to build for the future.
* Enhanced direct relationship with game player. This is immensely valuable and can be leveraged in a myriad of ways.

The new niche of go-to market for the likes of EA with Battlefield Heroe has added to the many application online shops and the various business models on Xbox Live have radically brought forward the day when high street retail has no relevance to the video game industry.

Most gamers will tell you, generally the porting of a popular movie on to the PC for gaming purposes generally fails. Now I don’t want to sound negative here, but honestly, this is usually the norm;

But in the case of harry potter and the chamber of secrets game, the game developers have certainly done a good job of bringing across the action of the big screen into an enjoyable ‘magical, mystery style fantasy PC game’ that has a decent storyline and will keep interest for an extended period.

Unlike other poor attempts at RPGs, this Harry Potter offering boasts the big game graphics, sound – but DOES have that story line thats needed.

Published by Electronic Arts, the harry potter and the chamber of secrets game was made available on Playstation2, XBOX, Gamecube, Gameboy and PC / MAC systems.

While some have argued the gameplay is  basic, it ties in well with the movie story line and requires the player to successfully navigate quests to completion.

Our only complaint was that EA didn’t make a free online version of the Harry Potter game where gamers could rock up and tackle a free harry potter web browser game.
